History[]

Built by Noorduyn in 1943, 43-13168 was passed via the USAAF[2] to RCAF as Harvard IIB FT427[3] in February 1944. Struck off charge in 1947, the aircraft was transferred to the Koninklijke Luchtmacht / Royal Netherlands Air Force. who later reserialled the aircraft as B-118.

Struck off KLu charge in 1972, it was used as instructional airframe, at Deelen, AB, 1972. Acquired by Gilze-Rijen Aero Club, Gilze-Rijen AB, in August 1976, the aircraft eventually passed to the civilian registry as PH-IIB. Owned by H. B. van Meelis/Stichting Vliegsport, Gilze-Rijen AB, from July 31, 1979 to 2002,[4] when it transferred to the Royal Netherlands Air Force Historic Flight, Gilze Rijen AB, Tilburg, Noord-Brabant.[2]

  1. One of four examples used, 43-13168 was painted with RAF insignia, D-Day stripes and squadron codes HF-N. HF Code indicates a 183 Squadron aircraft. (This example could be intended to represent Tempest Mk II MW755, which was coded HF-N while serving with this unit).[1]
