History[]

Built by Lockheed/Vega as a B-17G-110-VE Flying Fortress,^[1] with c/n 8746,^[2] the aircraft was modified, and transferred, as PB-1G Bu No. 82855,^{[N 1]} to the US Coast Guard^[1] on 14 August 1946. Returned to the US Navy on 1 April 1947 for scrapping,^[4] the aircraft was destined to remain intact until at least 1952.
