Built by English Electric at Samlesbury,[1] WA285 was delivered to the RAF on 07 December 1950.

The aircraft was written off on 23 June 1956[2] while serving with 7 FTS, when it crashed into Holyhead Harbour, Anglesey after the pilot ejected following engine failure.[3]
